NEW SEASON

May 26, 2018

We've had a few changes to the way we are running Saturday morning surfing this year so here is a summary of how things are running.

Our Saturday surfing at Surf Snowdonia runs every week from 7.45am until 10am. A further session runs from 10am to 11am on alternate weeks for our advanced surfers.

We've tried to keep things affordable but also recognise our surfers are improving so we need to provide a development path through to the advanced wave. It's a balance of affordability and trying to provide bigger more costly waves for our members:

  • Group 1: This group surf every week and need to be in the academy at 7.45am for their warm up. Surfers will be in the water 8 - 8.55am. This consists of two sub-groups of surfers; one group surfing the main bays and a second group surfing ‘intermediate 1’ waves.

  • Group 2: This group surf every week and need to be in the academy at 8.40am for the warm up. Surfers will be in the water 8.55 - 9.50am. This consists of two sub-groups of surfers; one group surfing the main bays and a second group surfing ‘intermediate 1’ waves.

  • Group 3: This is our advanced group that surf from 10am to 11am on alternate weeks. Surfers in this group will generally surf ‘intermediate 2’ & ‘advanced’ waves. They are expected to volunteer every week to help run Groups 1 and 2. Surfers in this group will get fewer waves as the waves are more costly & we can only provide on alternate weeks.

Please refer to our facebook page or weekly club email to see which groups members are in. We do our very best to keep friends together and accommodate preferences but we have limited places in each group so this might not always be possible. Our head coaches will progress people to surf the intermediate 1, 2 and advanced waves once they are ready to do so.

During some busy summer weeks (likely in the school summer holidays) we may only be able to hold our weekly surf between 8am and 9am as Surf Snowdonia will start their public surfing at 9am. During this period Groups 1 and 2 will alternate on a two week cycle of one week surfing and the following week learning lifesaving skills.

During the season, there is a weekly subscription of £5 for all surfers regardless of which group they are in. Prior to meeting in the Academy, surfers need to sign in at the front desk and ensure their weekly subscription is up to date.
