What a year, our first full season !

Runners up in both the Outdoor Partnership and the Conwy Sports awards for ‘club/team of the year’, two television appearances, one on S4C, one BBC, a letter from our AM praising what we are doing and most importantly we have given the opportunity for over 100 children (and occasionally parents) to enjoy themselves and develop a range of skills on every Saturday morning from mid April to the end of October - along with a couple of other big wave events in November which really showed how the club has progressed over our first season.

We also had wonderful club surf event at Rhosneigr on one of the very few perfect days this summer and a number of other memorable events - not least our Christmas party last Friday where on a very busy Friday over 80 kids and parents turned up to create a wonderful evening oh…. and not forgetting five of our members obtaining beach life guard awards.

A few other points as the club prepares to take a rest till spring :

Thank you so much to all the members, and there were so many of you, who supported the club on the Surf Snowdonia Christmas Fair on the 9th/10th December, we had a lovely time and raised over £600 for the club as well as cementing our importance with Surf Snowdonia by providing a quality of service that could not be purchased. As regards the club raffle, winners were drawn at the surf club meal and notified immediately after, so if you have not heard I’m afraid its bad luck this time, but thank you for buying a ticket.

The swimming sessions at Llanrwst pool have been a huge success - We didn’t know what the take up would be and were amazed how popular it was and even more amazed at how the numbers have stayed high throughout the seven weeks we have run this. Thanks Fawr to Ceri Jones (CSDC Grants officer and fundraiser) for suggesting these sessions and making it happen and to Gaz our instructor for for being so good with the swimmers. Again it’s been a pleasure watching the attitude and progression of the swimmers over the weeks. As it’s been such a success we hope to start swimming sessions again in the weeks leading up to the surfing restarting in spring next year (though we’ve not selected dates for this yet and will keep you informed).

Ceri Jones has also recently successfully applied for a grant from the community chest of £1459 to contribute to facility hire, equipment and instructor fees. Thank you so much Ceri We are also hoping to obtain a grant(s) to buy ourselves a container, trailer and some of our own surfboards for next season. Watch this space.

On a different note Nikki Land (CSDC social secretary) has submitted her resignation. Nikki has a very busy year ahead and doesn’t feel she can commit to all those Saturdays in the academy, but will I am sure will continue to be a very important member of the club - we wish her everything sparkling and shiny with her and her families next big adventure.

A huge thanks are due to Nikki for making so many memorable events happen this year. It’s definately more of an 'au revoir' than a farewell. If anyone wishes to have a go at the post do have a think about it and we’ll be asking around in spring

Can I just once more thank everyone, but especially the clubs committee members for making this such a memorable first year for Clwb Syrffio Dyffryn Conwy. Beneath the surface a huge amount of paddling has gone on to make it so and will continue to rumble on over the clubs closed season.
